The "BE KIND" Sisters
~
It's a simple phrase that reminds us to BE KIND. Two young girls - Raegan and Rylyn Richins (now 15 & 12) - are not only KIND to their siblings who have Down syndrome but they also pour out that message to encourage their ENTIRE community in Oldham County, Kentucky, to BE KIND. Raegan and Rylyn were inspired to create the signs when they saw "Just Be Kind" signs in another county. Since launching this initiative in August 2019, they have hand-painted over 5,200 signs to promote the need to BE KIND. Their signs are proudly displayed at private homes and businesses, and even an anonymous donor purchased signs for every public school in Oldham County to remind students and parents to BE KIND. Each sign is $10 (unfortunately, there is no shipping), and the funds raised through this project are going to local charities in the name of their KIND community. Even at a young age, Raegan and Rylyn are teaching us about the importance of being gentle, generous, and charitable. |
